Fulston Manor School A Fulston Manor Academies Trust School

Trustee

Fulston Manor Academies Trust (FMAT) is looking for new trustees to join our board. We are looking for individuals who can bring fresh perspectives and ideas as we look to the future of the trust and to support the achievement of our strategic goals. This is a rewarding voluntary role similar to that of a school governor.

We are particularly looking for individuals with data analysis, HR and financial backgrounds but are open to all backgrounds and experience. More important is an enthusiasm for creating a safe and inspiring environment for our students to learn in this ever-changing world.

Being a trustee is a rewarding way to gain experience, develop and refine your critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills.

As a trustee you will have the opportunity to use your skills and experience to help shape the future of the trust.

What’s involved:

  • You will be involved in both strategic planning and financial oversight, working with a team of dedicated people who are passionate about education.
  • Trustees do not get involved in the day to day running of the school, instead they support and challenge the trust’s leadership team to drive school improvement.
  • Working with other trustees to provide appropriate levels of governance and oversight.
  • Engaging with stakeholders as appropriate.

You will be an integral part of the trust board whose main responsibilities are:

  • Establishing and ensuring a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding school leaders to account for the educational performance of the trust’s schools
  • Ensuring sound financial management, risk management and compliance
  • Managing growth while ensuring systems and processes are fit for purpose, compliant and scalable
  • Ensuring that educational and inclusion provision supports all students

The Trust board meets six times a year – there is also a Finance, Audit and Risk Committee which meets five times a year.

The role is unpaid and the term of office is 4 years.

Training and induction will be provided.

Academies are both charities and companies limited by guarantee, trustees are therefore both charity trustees and corporate directors and must comply with company and charity law. This includes registering trustees with Companies House as a director.

There may be ad hoc meetings throughout the year that you are invited to attend such as the Annual General Meeting of members, panel meetings and training.

We recognise that people are busy at home and work, and when scheduling meetings we make every effort to arrange times to fit everyone’s situation.

We are an inclusive and diverse board, welcoming all ages, demographics and ethnic backgrounds.
