Our Curriculum Intent

The intention of the French curriculum is to allow the students to develop their understanding and knowledge about the French language, a different country and culture, to present new opportunities and also a better understanding of the English language.

The department aims to produce confident and capable linguists who will develop the skills to communicate independently with others both by spoken and written means about a range of topics, using a range of vocabulary, tenses and complex structures.  Students will be able to express thoughts, views, reasons and opinions which in turn will improve their social and thinking skills and ability to cope with the unexpected. With English being no longer the most spoken first language in the world, a foreign language is a great asset and can offer a wide range of career paths and it’s not just for use on holiday.

What Will Students Learn In Each Year?

The links below give a detailed breakdown of what is taught in the the curriculum for each year.

Accommodation and Resources

The MFL department is based in B2, B3 and BC2; all rooms are fitted with a DVD player, amplifier and projector and the department has its own iPad trolley. The students work mainly from the Expo and Studio series of text books, and these are supplemented by other resources.

Extra-Curricular Activities

GCSE French workshops are held on Fridays (Week 2) after school and a Key Stage 3 French homework club is available on Tuesdays after school.

Extended opportunities for learning have included a theatre production from “Dan Roro” the French clown for all Year 7 students.
