On Thursday 15^th September, around 50 of Fulston Manor’s finest budding writers gathered in the N block for an exclusive workshop with writer James Brabazon, to mark the launch of the Jacob Illahi Prize for Creative Writing.

During this hour long session, students studied the Ten Commandments of Writing and were given tips and tricks about how to write effective, prize-winning short stories in a bid to help them unlock their very own untold stories. Students were then invited to share their ideas with James and ask questions about his career, the competition, and indeed about writing in general.

In the words of Sylvia Plath, “everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise.” Here at Fulston Manor, we are encouraging students to stretch their creativity to the very furthest of its capability.

Competition Information:

Entries for the competition should be handed to Miss Mulligan by 3:00pm on Friday 4^th November. Entries should be between 800-2000 words and relate to the theme “A Complicated Friendship.” Workshops will be held on Thursdays between 3:10pm and 4:10pm in N6 to enable students to access support with ideas or the writing process, proof-reading, and feedback from their peers.
