Homework

Our Homework Policy aims to allow students to develop positive study habits whilst ensuring a comprehensive understanding of key curriculum knowledge – ultimately improving student progression across all of their subjects.

Please be aware that all students have access to “The Homework Support Channel” on Google classrooms, where we will be posting helpful videos, tips and examples of good work to support all students with their homework. Students just need to log into their school account on Google and go to the Google Classroom section.

At Key Stage 5

There is an expectation that students should complement the 5 hours of lesson time for each course with independent study in school and at home, this will include two 40-minute tasks will be set as homework per subject per week. These tasks will be set on ClassCharts by the subject teacher, allowing a reasonable time allocation to ensure tasks are completed to a high level.

At Key Stage 3 and 4

  • Each subject will set one homework task for each term, this will be an ongoing task that involves students revising from a knowledge organiser that covers the key knowledge content needed for the topics being taught that term.
  • All homework will be set on the Class Charts system
  • Students at Key Stage 3 will also be set literacy and numeracy homework per week using a third party website - “Literacy Planet” for Literacy and “Times Tables Rock Stars” for numeracy.
  • Students will be given a time slot within their homework timetable to study that subject each week / fortnight – see below for more details.
  • Every lesson will have a way for the teacher to gain an understanding of the knowledge that each student has on that termly topic – most likely a quick quiz at Key stage 3 or an exam question at Key Stage 4.
  • Every three weeks the teacher will give an indication on Class Charts as to the level of understanding each student is showing.

** Please note that the ClassCharts system does not allow us to change the language “Submitted “and “Not Submitted” so we will use the colour coding to communicate to parents - Green will mean on track with homework and red will mean not on track with homeworkwe ask that you ignore the wording as we are not requesting students submit a physical piece of work.

  • Should a teacher determine it suitable to support any student with their homework as there is little evidence of understanding of the knowledge set via homework they may request a support session with that student to help them with their understanding.

After the three weeks you can check your child’s progress in their homework for that term, as if rated Green, it will go into the “Submitted / all okay” folder on the app. But if rated Red, it will fall into the “Not Submitted / Concerns” folder on the app.
