Our Curriculum Intent

Geography is a wide and varied subject that has something that will appeal to every student. Every child in our school should have the chance to learn about the world around them and be able to consider their current and future role in it. Our aim is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to be successful global citizens. Our curriculum is not about students leaving with a long list of facts about the world; we want our students to appreciate the ever-evolving nature of Geography as an academic discipline.

The geography curriculum at Fulston Manor School follows the content set out in the national curriculum – places, human and physical geography and the development of geographical skills. Students will develop a deeper understanding of places both on a local and global scale and appreciate the need to live in balance with a fragile environment. They will also learn and develop a wide range of skills including numeracy, literacy, and fieldwork. The fieldwork allows for students to analyse data they collect and present findings using a range of mathematical skills. Opportunities to write at length are included in the curriculum for each year group.

What Will Students Learn In Each Year?

The links below give a detailed breakdown of what is taught in the the curriculum for each year.

Accommodation and Resources

The Geography Department are based in the E-block (E1, E2, E3 and E5).  There are 4 specialist classrooms all equipped with DVD players, projectors and white boards.  The department has a full set of iPads which are used regularly for research, presentation and the use of GIS to explore our world.

Extra Curricular Activities

Currently the Geography Department runs homework catch-up sessions on Thursdays for year 10 and Mondays for Year 11.  We also run fieldwork trips in Years 11 and 12 to various locations in the UK.  In Year 13 students are offered a chance to attend an exam board student conference.

The department is currently planning a trip to Iceland.
