Triple Gold for Lowri!
To say we are proud of Year 9 Cromer Student, Lowri Williams, would be the understatement of the century. Just before Christmas, Lowri took part in the Swim Wales Winter Nationals and came away with a plethora of medals.
Lowri has been swimming for as long as she can remember, as her parents wanted to make sure she had this incredibly important life skill under her belt as early as possible. It was something she took to, and it became immediately obvious that she had more than just a natural talent for the sport.
During the Welsh championships, Lowri, representing Swansea, secured an incredible three gold medals in the 13-year-old age category in the following events - 50-metre Breaststroke, 100 Breaststroke and 200-metre Breaststroke. So, she's officially a triple National Welsh Champion, as well as the fastest-ranked swimmer her age, in these events this year, in Wales! Not only that, but Lowri beat the English champion and is now ranked 8th in Britain for the 200m Breaststroke in her age group. Not bad for your first competitive swim for Wales!
Dad, Timothy, originally from Anglesey, North Wales, and Mum, Rachel, are super proud of their daughter’s achievements. In all fairness, without her family’s support, Lowri would not be able to travel every day to Tonbridge Wells to train for two hours in the pool – certainly a commitment needed by every top athlete.
Lowri said “Swimming is my absolute number one hobby and I love it with a passion, but I’m now looking to take up another hobby just to be able to have some downtime away from swimming and to relax in the small amount of free time I have. I fancy playing an instrument but not sure what just yet. I also have my sights set on being picked for the Welsh Commonwealth Swimming Team in 2025 so I can’t stop working hard and training for that”.
We can only sit back and watch Lowri head towards her goals and live in awe of her determination and energy. We wish her every success in her future swimming career and hope that the future Olympic Games will eventually see the emergence of a bright star.
