In March this year, Matthew, Haydon and Lewis took part in a 4 day residential trip with students and teachers from other schools visiting the sites of World War One in Belgium and France.  They visited battlefields, cemeteries, museums and took part in workshops to enhance their understanding of the war.  This was part of a programme of trips to mark the centenary of the Great War.  All Year 9 students were encouraged to apply by writing a letter explaining why they felt they should be chosen to go on this trip.  Matthew, Haydon and Lewis were successful.

Throughout the visit, all 3 of them were hugely touched and inspired by what they saw and heard.  They were keen to take part in the legacy project which was part of the programme.  Legacy 110 is the idea that the students do something after the trip which will pass on something about world war one to 110 other people.   The number of 110 comes from the idea that if each student in the UK who takes part in this trip affect at least 110 other people, the total number affected will be the number of commonwealth troops killed in the Great War.

The students spent time considering how best to do this and wrote an article in the local newspaper – many thousands would have seen this article.  They also prepared a display for local year 6 students who were visiting the school on Thursday 6^th July and parents of year 6 pupils who were visiting the school.  Over 400 people saw this display.  Matthew, Haydon and Lewis have far exceeded the aim of affecting 110 people each.
