A Misfit In Moscow - Ian Proud

We were delighted to welcome former British diplomat Ian Proud on Wednesday, 13th March. Ian, who has mastered 8 languages, took charge of five assemblies throughout the day, speaking to over 500 students and covering a number of topics, including Geography, Modern Foreign Languages and, of course, Politics. He spoke of his time as a diplomat in various places around the world and gave the students a fantastic insight into the cultures and traditions of different nationalities. As his second language is Thai, the students loved testing him on his prowess in this foreign tongue. Many questions were asked, and the students felt that they had been in the company of someone as close to James Bond as they could imagine.

The evening saw a more formal event when Ian promoted his book - A Misfit in Moscow. Talking about his various antics in Russia and Thailand, he also touched on his skills at organising the G8 summit in Northern Ireland. Mrs Palmer said, "It was a fantastic evening, full of amazing questions and answers. It was thoroughly informative. Listening to the views of a man in the middle of diplomatic tensions between the UK and Russia was eye-opening. We cannot thank Ian enough for coming and sharing his knowledge with our students and parents, or our Head of Modern Foreign Languages, Mr Pastor, for organising the whole visit. We really hope to see Ian on our doorstep again in the future. I would also confirm that Ian's book is a jolly good read and can be bought off Amazon!".
