Inspiring Minds

Thirteen of our amazing Year 10 students have been participating in the ‘Inspiring Minds’ project with Canterbury Christ Church University. This project has involved the students focusing on a real-life problem and then designing and building a product to solve this issue. For six weeks, the students have attended sessions at the University which have focused on building their STEM and teamwork skills.  The students gave up their Saturday mornings in order to participate in the project, a brilliant sign of their dedication to the project!

On 21st June the students got to showcase their skills at the new STEM building at Canterbury Christ Church University. They confidently presented their work to other schools and parents, detailing the real world problem they were trying to solve and the process they went through in order to do this. This included the creation of a nighttime safety solar light, a mechanical womb and a magnetic rocket launcher. The event culminated in the rocket launcher being used for the first time. There were some tense moments as the group prepared the rocket for take-off. Fortunately, this was incredibly successful and was an amazing end to the event.

Mr Vigeon and Mrs Mason said “We are incredibly proud of what the students have achieved in such a short period of time; the students have been extremely dedicated in their approach and have created amazing pieces of work.”

The students involved were: Luke Chambers, Alec Chambers, Harry Clark, Theo Deacon, David Fijalkowski, Joshua Flint, Ashley Foord, Paige Halil, Skye Hogben, Anabelle Osborne, Jason Smigielski and Kirk Windeatt.
